ibeacon - Estimote beacons vs real device -
i've been working while ibeacons
, testing purposes bought devices company in hong kong couple of bucks each. wish didn't... kinda suck, understand why cost low.
anyway since not come interesting started playing iphones/ipads
using mocking app created turn them ibeacons
, , result way way better real hong-kong beacons. used estimote
app turn iphones
in live beacons , fine.
i'm asking now, if ever bought/used estimote
beacons, there difference between them , iphone/ipad
broadcasting signal? mean, mocked idevice
better beacon can purchase (say better hardware components)? or 1 purchased sh*t?

a built beacon meets specifications of beacon format work or better ios device transmitting beacon. have experience dozens of different beacon vendors, can confidence.
dedicated hardware beacons configurable in ways ios devices transmitting beacon not. radbeacon line radius networks (my company), can configure:
- the advertisement rate (from 1 hz - 10 hz.) on ios, transmission these locked @ 10 hz , not changeable.
- the transmitter power (from ~5 meter range ~50 meter range.) again on ios, not configurable. transmission distance around 40 meters.
- different beacon advertisement formats altbeacon , eddystone
one reason cheap beacons poor quality powered coin cell batter, , take shortcuts save power. advertise infrequently (say @ 0.2 hz instead of recommended minimum of 1 hz), causes inaccurate distance estimates, , random entry/exit events.
it important note there number of options software beacon transmitters different platforms, of allow have lots of configurability hardware beacons. locate android, example, allows of configuration options mentioned above.
