windows 7 - Pitfalls when deploying/installing legacy software outside program folders on Win 7 and 8 -
i’ve been given task of changing our legacy software installation packages conform win 7 , 8. our software run on xp , win server 2003 , installed “program files” folder , run without worry. nowadays, or since introduction of uac, installing program files opens issues regarding privileges when comes file creation, changing , deletion. furthermore whole wow64 redirection thing, our legacy applications run different folder actual installation folder (program files x86).
cut chase: our legacy software running on dedicated computers, used running our sw. i’ve bypassed whole problem uac , wow64 redirection (as hot-fix-hack) installing software outside program files folders. looking permanent solution, , thinking of making previous hot-fix solution. install our software on example: c:\software\ , doing bypass whole issue uac , wow64.
question: (if any) pitfalls when installing legacy x86 software outside program files folder?
